Hike Tuesday Beach Lake

BEACH LAKE (Municipal Park): Located in the Chugiak area off South Birchwood Loop this peaceful lake offers fishing, berry picking, cross country ski trails, hiking and is restricted to non-motorized use throughout the park. The largest municipal park in the area, Beach Lake is the home to the Chugiak Dog Mushers Association and over 16 miles of groomed sled dog trails. These trails host sled dog races most winter weekends. . Located on the banks of Beach Lake is Barrier Free Recreation's.

Take the Exit to take you to Chugiak High School. Go past the high School and on the left is Beach Lake Road take this road and follow it to the end of the road, this is a gravel road. You will come to a lake and there is a trail around the lake that is fun to take.

Hatchers Pass hike Tomorrow

Tuesday we will be hiking Hatchers Pass. It is a beautiful hike and a great place to pick Blueberries. The blueberries won't be ready for about another three weeks. It is beautiful and a great place to look around. There is a nice little restraunt up there if you are hungry. It is a nice view and atmosphere.

The hike that we will be doing is the
GOLD CORD LAKE (Independence Mine Area)

DESCRIPTION: ¾ Mile to the lake. Steep in the last section. A good short
hike for families with children. This is a jogger friendly hike. So please come and get out. The weather is a little cooler there so dress for it.

Directions:

Hatchers Pass is pretty easy to find its just a longer drive. It is about 45 mintues to drive there from Eagle River. I will be leaving around 9:45 to get there.

Take the Hwy past Palmer about 7 miles past Palmer on the left will be Fishhook Road. There is a turning lane and a big sign pointing it out. Turn on this road and take it all the way to the end which is about 13 miles I think go till you can go no more. Park at the parking lot in front of the old Mine. It should be fun.

This Tuesday Arctic Valley

This week we will be hiking Arctic Valley. It is beautiful and lots of places to go. There is a trail that is stroller friendly but is not very long. Maybe 1/4-1/2 mile. It is a large area and lots of room for kids to run around and play. We will go on a little longer hike than just the wider trail but still come if you have strollers. It is so pretty it is worth just the short walk and chatting.

To get there take the Fort Rich Exit and turn the opposite way of fort Rich. Follow the road past the golf course up the mountain to the ski resort. We will meet at the chalet.

10:30 am

See you there

Hike at South Fork up Hiland

This week our hike will be up Hiland at South Fork. This is NOT a jogger friendly hike. Babies will need to be carried in packs. I think we will try to make it to the bridge and back.

To get there take Hiland Rd. to mile 7.5, then right, follow signs 0.5 mile to the trail head. It is a little dirt parking lot on your left.

This is a bit of the hike with these rocks but not to much of it is like this. But is sure is beautiful and every time I have done this hike I always see wildlife in the distance.
Elevation Gain: 400 ft (122 m)
This is a fairly easy hike just longer. You can go as long as you think your children will go.

I will be there for sure this Tuesday. No more doctors appointments for another 3 weeks!!

I will not be able to make it today to the hiking group. I was just reminded that my daughter has a doctors appointment this morning. I have been waiting for this appointment for a month and can not cancel or reschedule it.

Please go on the hike. I am not sure who is going but start with out me and have fun.
